What
is RETN?
The Region Eleven Telecommunications
Network (RETN) is a network of K-12, higher education, and cultural
entities that are connected to share two way video/two way audio
videoconferencing and other types of communications. |
What
can we do with it?
Courses
Videoconferencing includes
connections with other schools to share
teachers and resources for high need courses and dual credit courses
from community colleges around the state. Many success stories are told
about students having access to additional coursework and the ability
to obtain a Distinguished Diploma, regardless of the size of their school
district. Students may graduate from high school having already earned
21 college credit hours while completing their high school diploma. The
instructor teaches from their local campus to students scattered around
the region, or they may even be teaching from another part of the state.
Professional Development
Educators have access to
many professional development opportunities delivered by ESC Region XI
staff without leaving their district. These events include meetings, legislative
updates, and informational sessions delivered directly from Texas Education
Agency.
Content Enhancement
"Virtual field trips". students interacting with an
expert in the field of forensics, discussing the work of authors and illustrators
of children’s books, watching a science experiment and explaining
the results. These are all experiences that students can have via videoconferencing
with providers from around the country and worldwide. Content programs
enhance the curriculum for students, taking them to other worlds without
leaving their classroom.
